“Another beast from the South of France, at least as interesting as the Cicada, but of much less fame, because it makes no noise. Here we call it Lou Prègo-Diéu, the beast that prays to God. Its official name is Mantis religiosa.
The contrast is great between the whole body, very peaceful, and the deadly machine of the fore legs, so relevantly called ravishers.”
